Shiatsu 105 Hour Course
This course is taught as 6 modules.
MODULE 1
This course introduces Shiatsu as a therapeutic modality for pain control and stress management. The concept of Six Channels for Pain Management is taught first to give the therapist a valuable tool for treating any pain management situation. Table Shiatsu treatment routines will be taught for general arm, neck and shoulder releases. Students will then be introduced to the Ancestral Vessels and taught their clinical use and application. A total of eight routines will be taught in this very practical class. Half the class time is devoted to "hands on" so the participants will feel comfortable using this modality to complement their existing routines.
MODULE 2
This course explains the underlying theories of Asian Philosophy. Yin/Yang, The Five Phases, Qi and the Vital substances are introduced to the participants in a practical format, laying the ground work for understanding the development of a treatment plan. Particular attention will be paid to experiencing the body's "Qi Flow" and students will be given exercises to help them feel the "Qi Flow" around themselves and other people. A total of 31 treatment formulas will be taught in this class covering many aspects of pain and stress management as well as energetic disturbances.
MODULE 3
This course examines the meridians of SHIATSU in great detail. Students will learn the meridians of the Stomach, Spleen, Heart, Small Intestine, Bladder and Kidney. Stretches and positioning for these six channels will be taught as well as 4 point treatments, and individual releases for each meridian. A total of 18 treatment formulas will be offered in this section and half the class is dedicated to supervised practical application. Over One Hundred Shiatsu Points (tsubos) will be demonstrated and explained. If you are interested in "Energy Work," this class will provide you with a greater understanding of the practical aspects of balancing energetic disturbances.
MODULE 4
This course picks up where SHIATSU-MERIDIAN THEORY AND PRACTICE I leaves off, examining the other meridians of SHIATSU in great detail. Students will learn the meridians of the Pericardium, Triple Heater, Gall Bladder, Liver, Large Intestine, Lung, Conception Vessel, and Governing Vessel. Stretches and positioning for these eight channels will be taught as well as 4 point treatments, and individual releases for each meridian. A total of 20 treatment formulas will be offered in this section and half the class is dedicated to supervised practical application. Over One Hundred Shiatsu Points (tsubos) will be demonstrated and explained.
MODULE 5
This course is unique in its view of Asian Energetic evaluation. Participants will be exposed to all the evaluating tools of Asian Medicines. A great amount of time will be spent learning to take a medical as well as an "energetic" history. Palpatory skill will be refined and there is a section completely devoted to Hara (abdominal) evaluation, which you won't find in any other Shiatsu class. More than half the course will consist of the participants evaluating clients, creating treatment plans, presenting case studies to the group and performing therapy; all under the supervision of one or more Master Therapists.
MODULE 6
This course will teach the therapist to think independently when developing a treatment plan. The first half of this class focuses on how to combine points appropriate to the treatment plan and how to select points according to their individual and synergistic actions within the channel systems, the functions and appropriate uses of 5 "command", "element" or "transporting points," and teaches the functions and use of specific points such as source points, connecting points, Back Shu points, Front Mu points, Xi-Cleft points and gathering points. It looks into the implications of these principles for the treatment of selected diseases. The second half of the course will consist of the participants evaluating clients, creating treatment plans, presenting case studies to the group and performing therapy; all under the supervision of one or more Master Therapists.
